About Us:
LaPorte County Habitat for Humanity (LCHFH) became an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International in October of 1986. In keeping with the creed of Habitat for Humanity it is our belief that simple, decent, and affordable housing for all people is a matter of conscience and action. A warm, safe home is essential to the development of children and bolsters the collective esteem of the family.
The house built by LCHFH are sold to those in need at no profit and with an interest free loan that is maintained by the affiliate. Habitat is not a hand out, but rather a hand up. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payment, home owners must invest a minimum of 500 hours of work of their own labor. This "sweat equity" will be used on their house, as well as other homes built by LCHFH.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization. Whether at the job site, fundraising, or working in the office volunteers are essential in fulfilling our mission. Tax deductible donations of money and materials come from a variety of sources, both public and private. We welcome involvement from corporations, individuals, and the faith community.
You are invited to join the excitement of Habitat! To donate your time, talent, or resources, please contact us!
Who we are
A volunteer board of directors manages our local habitat affiliate. As of 2003 our growth has enabled us to hire a half time executive director, who represents our affiliate and directs the daily operations. The ministry is primarily dependent upon volunteer labor at construction sites, in committees and in the office.
